My reply to a TV program about specific mis information about Lyme disease by an uninformed doctor.
Ticks are found in all parts of North America and deer mice, squirrels, chipmunks and other small animals are the carriers of the Lyme spirochetes and lately mosquitos, black flies and sandflies have been found to be transmitters of this disease and there is possibly many other unknown and untested animal hosts. The typical tick multiply and reproduce at rate of 3000 eggs per single blood engorged female and in two years each female again produces an equal number of 3000 new eggs. In the past most did not survive the cold weather but now very few will die off and every two years you can reproduce millions and billions if you do a little math.
The nymphal stage of the tick is the size of a "dot" and the amount of the spirochetes would be minimal and you would not notice a erythema migrans rash or target rash. Medical Schools are not teaching about this serious epidemic and most are misdiagnosed as M.S., Fibromyalgia, Chronic fatigue syndrome, Arthritis, Parkinson disease, ALS, Hysteria, Mental disease Etc Etc. Consequently many cases are into a serious third stage of this disease which becomes very difficult to treat with the routine antibiotics and prolonged therapy becomes necessary. The recommended removal of ticks with a constant pulling action will break off the mouth parts and the salivary glands harboring the infection is often left under the skin and can cause persisting and recurring infections.Dr. Ernie Murakami M.D. Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus, University of British Columbia.
