WEDNESDAY'S KOOKY RHYME...
FROM "THIS OLD MAN"...
WITH THE 50 YEAR LYME!
a poem by MJ
Wednesday's kooky rhyme...
sent from an old man who has 50 years of Lyme,
goes out to millions just like me
in your town, across your city, down your street...
and everywhere throughout your country.
Tick transmitted disease strikes indiscriminately
to the young and athletically healthy, rich or poor,
famous or ignored... or to the weak and old,
or those on top of the world, or those crushed beneath it...
the religiously inspired or spiritually retired,
fashionably beautiful or considered homely...
the entitled, the homeless, the hopeful or hopeless...
the low, the mighty...
and the children and babies.
Ruthless and relentless, all it takes is one little bite
that you, in your hurry... might not even know...
it was never seen, never noticed, how would it be clear
when there was no bug to be viewed... staring back at you?
No rash, no evidence, no proof to show medically...
you just get sick later on, unexplainably... desperately,
and no one can figure it out from looking in the wrong place
or the wrong way... diagnostically.
It takes training and education to see what is real,
and without that knowledge no doctor can heal...
SO, WHY IS IT... we don't train our medical community
about a "hidden epidemic" that is causing so much misery...
to hundreds and hundreds of thousands new each year in this place (the USA) and millions more across the sea?
Graft, corruption, evil exists... I know, I get all of this...
Some have asked me why I don't feel it is the patients
that I need to teach?
But I believe it is the rest of the world...
we need to reach.
Until we can get most to know
this can be worse than things like polio...
and is bigger now in global scope,
change for us remains a futile dream...
and we will live without hope.

For Ellie and all my other friends, who like me, are sometimes too ill to do much of anything, we are semi house-bound. I wrote her a quirky poem, to cheer her up. I can't find it now, but our conversation inspired the above. Such are the vague shifting sands on social media, but us long-timers carry on... in hopes of connecting with newer generations... and spreading the message of urgency... Will you let another 50 years go by? Will you try to raise the conversation, so your children aren't like me in 2050? *
